QE2 – Saying Goodbye

October 21, 2008
I was about to leave the office on Thursday late as usual.  As I was heading out, I heard Christopher say, “She’s backing out of her berth, she’s on her way…I’m going down to the pier to look.  Want to come?”  I declined, figuring I would see her as I drove north out of Hoboken.  But somehow, on the way downstairs I detoured – instead of hitting the parking garage, I went down to the pier.  It was a majestic sight.  I got a little emotional hearing the horn in the distance.  We could see the QM2 maneuvering into position by the Statue of Liberty, waiting for her line-mate to arrive.
Even though I knew damn well this was the day, I didn’t bring my camera.  I was kicking and cursing myself, but hey, memories can be made with the eye too.  Luckily, Melissa had a camera cell phone and took this picture of Christopher and me.  You can tell we’re on the Jersey side because of the garbage can in the picture.  Just kidding!
Bon Voyage!

Bon Voyage!

It was an emotional departure, and I’m so glad I saw it up close.
