Loving the Nerds

I haven’t read this book yet, but I just put a hold on it at the library (cheap AND geeky!) because it looks like it’s totally up my alley topic-wise.  But first I must address the promo site.  The quiz is gimmicky – what nerd needs a quiz to verify nerdiness? – but the page has an interesting video by Expanded Books.  It’s a good example of using a video like that to advance the cause of the book.  We were all hyped up on doing videos about 6 months ago, but most of us in marketing haven’t really followed through on that initial lust.  Not saying that it’s a mistake, but more an example of how trends rise and fall in importance.

Was that stream of consciousness nerdy of me?  Horrors.

Anyhow, back to the topic of the book.  In the IT household, geek is good, and something to aspire to.  Little IT doesn’t seem to be heading in one particular direction, nerd or non nerd now.  She really is so well rounded.  She loves to read, enjoys playing on the computer and the Wii, but also loves her sports, especially soccer and now basketball.  We try and support whatever she wants to do, so hopefully she will feel strong enough to follow her own path.  If I learn anything in the book, know I will report it back here.
